critical raw materials investment
review

Client: EIT RawMaterials GmbH (Germany)

Acting as the sole consultant for EIT RawMaterials GmbH, Environment Group conducted a comprehensive study on Armenia’s mining sector to map critical raw material assets. This strategic analysis defines concrete investment and technological collaboration pathways, bridging Armenia's mineral potential with European industrial and financial partners.

This specialized advisory assignment was designed to deliver a high-level overview of the current mining landscape in Armenia and provide a clear, actionable way forward for European engagement in the sector. To establish a robust baseline, Environment Group reviewed recent mining sector studies conducted by individual investors and public bodies, synthesizing existing benchmarks with real-time market opportunities. The study mapped out available exploration, mining, processing, and recycling projects across the country, specifically highlighting uncommitted assets of high potential relevance to the European Union.

A major technical component of the project involved evaluating existing geological data connected to the identified projects to determine which data sets required updating to align with modern international standards. The analysis placed a strong emphasis on Critical Raw Materials (CRMs), evaluating advanced exploration and processing parameters for deposits primary to Armenia (such as copper, molybdenum, and zinc) alongside associated strategic elements including cadmium (Cd), bismuth (Bi), selenium (Se), tellurium (Te), rhenium (Re), gallium (Ga), germanium (Ge), titanium (Ti), indium (In), and antimony (Sb). Each prioritized deposit was analyzed against key geological, economic, financial, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) parameters to determine which minerals are most vital and commercially viable for EU industrial value chains.

Based on these technical and sustainability evaluations, Environment Group formulated a concrete outline of investment opportunities explicitly tailored for European strategic projects and financial institutions. The final deliverable detailed national mining strategies and mid-to-downstream development policies, while actively highlighting high-value opportunities for technological research and cross-border collaboration in advanced processing technologies. This strategic blueprint successfully bridges Armenia’s rich mineral potential with Europe’s raw material security and industrial standards.
